November 11, 2013

We didn’t work for two days because my companion has been feeling very sick, but we still met every single one of our goals! We committed 4 to baptism this week. Alisia, Luandra, Yara, and Antonio Carlos.

Dialoni was not baptized sabado. She has dropped off the face of the planet. We haven’t seen her in over a week. She doesn’t answer our calls and is never home....or pretends not to be home. I have no idea what’s going on. I’m worried. Her mom Domingas also doesn’t answer. I thought all was well until suddenly it wasn’t... We will keep persisting though.

Karina and Antonio Carlos are set to be baptized this week, and the rest on the 23rd. Fingers crossed and lots of prayers. People tend to love committing to baptism but not actually keeping the commitment.

So…I discovered this week that there are lots of drug deals here. When a dealer wants to let people know where he is, he lets of fireworks. It’s obnoxious. Every 20 minutes… it sounds like gunfire. So yesterday we’re teaching a lesson, and this sound goes off. I thought oh great another, but my companions eyes go crazy, and people start screaming, “mata mata mata!”.....So.... a man was murdered in the catholic church at the end of the road. There are on average about 5-6 murders a week here. It is actually really dangerous. (Not trying to raise alarm. We are safe). But my companion is slowly losing it. She’s really scared to walk the streets at night. So we try our best to stay in the center of Angelim. Unfortunately the areas we work are just not secure after the sun goes down, and there are no lights on the side streets. So please keep our safety in your prayers. She has already been robbed twice and someone showed her his gun during the last time.

Unfortunately because we missed two days of work, I really don’t have a lot of new stuff to tell you about our pesguisadors. I don’t have many photos either, but I’ll send what I have.

 Love, Sister Wainwright

PS. Something funny I thought I would share with you:
Apparently I’m the only missionary on the face of the planet that isn't dying with saldovos for my family. (missing them). I mean… I miss ya….but not really. Too busy to cry about it! I’m sitting here in a room with three other sisters. They are all bawling their eyes out reading emails. Every single one of them. And I’m just sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting on ya’ll to get online and I’m completely cool!

Sincerely,
Sister Wainwright
